Ibrahim Mohammed, a member of the House of Representatives representing Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, has introduced two legislative bills seeking the creation of two federal institutions in Kebbi State:

  • The Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Bunza

  • The National Institute for Technical and Vocational Education in Kalgo

These proposals aim to address rising youth unemployment and enhance access to skills-based education and training.

Ahead of a public hearing at the National Assembly scheduled for Thursday, the lawmaker emphasized the significance of these institutions in creating sustainable opportunities for young Nigerians.

“Kalgo and Bunza will become centres of excellence for skills acquisition and self-reliance. This is about building a sustainable future for our youth,” Mohammed stated.

Purpose and Structure of the Institutions

  • The Bunza college will focus on entrepreneurship education, offering full-time teaching, teacher training, and certification programs designed to produce job creators, not job seekers.

  • The Kalgo institute will specialise in technical and vocational education, tailored to meet evolving market demands and support applied research and innovation in critical sectors.

Both institutions will:

  • Operate under independent governing councils

  • Be federally funded

  • Have the authority to award diplomas, NCEs, and professional certifications

Nationwide Impact

Mohammed stressed that while the institutions will be based in Kebbi State, their impact will extend beyond the region—serving as national hubs for innovation, technical skill-building, and enterprise development.

The upcoming public hearing is expected to feature contributions from:

  • Education experts

  • Civil society organisations

  • Traditional leaders

  • Youth representatives

These deliberations will help shape the final structure and implementation of the proposed institutions, reinforcing the commitment to inclusive and practical education reform.
