Moving beyond its core mandate of electricity generation, Egbin Power Plc has officially graduated its first cohort of 24 youth innovators from its newly established Tech Empowerment Programme.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Bright Gyimah Innovation Centre inside Powerfields Schools in Ikorodu, marked the completion of an intensive six-month digital boot camp designed to boost youth employability and tech entrepreneurship within the power plant’s host communities.
The initiative is part of Egbin Power’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) framework. It targets young residents in the Egbin, Ijede, and Ipakan communities, providing free, structured access to technical skills that are essential for competing in today’s global digital economy.
A Comprehensive, High-Demand Digital Curriculum
To ensure the graduates are ready for the modern job market, the six-month program combined hard technical training with essential workplace skills like collaboration, time management, and complex problem-solving.
The Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, Kola Adesina, MFR, praised the graduates for their resilience. He challenged them to remain curious and focus on refining current technologies to make them faster, cheaper, and more efficient. He emphasized that continuous improvement is key to turning these new skills into real economic value for their communities.
Driving Local Social Impact and Innovation
Egbin Power CEO Mokhtar Bounour noted that investing in youth is one of the most effective ways to drive sustainable development. He urged the graduates to use their creativity to build practical solutions that can tackle everyday socio-economic challenges across Nigeria.
The ceremony wrapped up with special awards for outstanding students. Dina Anjolaoluwa emerged as the Overall Best Graduand and Most Outstanding Female. Speaking for the cohort, she described the program as life-changing, explaining that it gave them the technical skills, discipline, and confidence needed to build competitive careers and inspire other young people in their neighborhoods.
