Caleb University has announced a strategic cross-sector initiative aimed at shielding Nigeria’s human resource pipelines and media ecosystems from severe macroeconomic disruptions and rapid artificial intelligence integration. Speaking at a press conference, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, unveiled plans for two high-level capacity summits—HR Space 2026 and the Journalism Outlook Conference 2026. The academic-led interventions are engineered to deliver structured policy roadmaps to counter rising inflation, talent drain, and digital sustainability challenges across the country.

The dual-track national summits rely on specialized global frameworks:

  • Navigating Workforce Shockwaves (HR Space 2026): Scheduled for July 21, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel in Lagos, this conference addresses pressing issues such as currency-driven talent migration and the adoption of workplace AI. Chaired by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Alhaji Muhammadu Dingyadi, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Special Guest of Honour, the summit will gather international researchers, including Jens R. Jenssen (University of Cambridge) and Prof. Christian Harrison (University of Greater Manchester). The primary goal is the adoption of “The HR Leader’s Action Agenda for 2026 and Beyond” to strengthen domestic workforce resilience.

  • Modernizing Print Journalism (Journalism Outlook 2026): Taking place on July 20, 2026, at the university’s main campus in Imota, Lagos, this conference addresses the financial decline of local community newspapers in the digital era. The workshop will be anchored by Kirsten Myklebust, a prominent Norwegian media digitization expert. The session will focus on structural revenue diversification, media independence, and algorithmic content distribution to establish a long-term commercial survival roadmap for Nigerian print journalists.

  • Institutional Ecosystem Coalitions: To ensure the practical implementation of these strategies, Caleb University has established cross-border partnerships. The human resource track is backed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN). Meanwhile, the media stabilization track is supported by the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), and the Nigerian Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
