Applications Now Open for Equity-Free Funding to Support Student Innovators
The Federal Government has officially launched the application portal for its newly introduced Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG)—a bold initiative designed to empower young innovators and deepen Nigeria’s pipeline of entrepreneurial talent. The portal is now live at svcg.education.gov.ng, opening the door for student-led ventures to access equity-free grants of up to ₦50 million.
The S-VCG is part of a broader government strategy to drive innovation across higher institutions by identifying, funding, and supporting high-potential ideas that can evolve into commercially viable solutions. The programme specifically targets students building ventures within the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM) sectors, reflecting the government’s focus on innovation-driven economic growth.
According to the guidelines, eligibility is restricted to full-time undergraduate students from 300 level and above in accredited Nigerian tertiary institutions. Beyond the financial support, successful applicants will also gain access to mentorship, business development services, incubation support, and guidance from industry experts—critical tools for transforming early-stage ideas into scalable ventures.
Speaking on the initiative, officials emphasized that the grant is structured not only to provide funding, but also to build sustainable entrepreneurship pathways for young Nigerians solving real-world problems through technology and innovation.
To ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient disbursement, the Student Venture Capital Grant is being executed in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BOI), one of Nigeria’s leading development finance institutions.
The launch of the S-VCG portal signals another step in the government’s commitment to strengthening youth entrepreneurship and supporting the next generation of Nigerian innovators.
