Are you a lazy entrepreneur?

Are you a lazy entrepreneur?

I’m absolutely sure you wouldn’t answer YES to that question yet majority of we entrepreneurs exemplify various forms of laziness in our entrepreneurial journey more times than we would like to come to terms with. So much emotional sentiments have been attached to the word ‘entrepreneurship’ or ‘entrepreneur’ top on the list is the passionate feeling of being your own BOSS. This and many more has subtly turned we entrepreneurs into some sort of “hero” in our own fantasy world of risk taking adventures. The idea of being lazy will totally seem like an insult to our entrepreneurial personality; for crying out loud, we dare what others don’t, right?

The truth is we entrepreneurs are more susceptible to laziness in more ways than the average person in the world. The very fact that we are on a mission to create change through whatever business we’ve chosen to venture into calls for more discipline and hard work many of us are having a hard time coping with. What does it take to build the greatest company in the world?

Q: How do you build the world’s greatest company?

A: By doing BUSINESS NOT AS USUAL!

Of all activities known to humanity, engaging in something for the mere sake of merely surviving is the most hazardous to our journey here on earth as human beings. I have never been comfortable with the thought of merely doing things. It really doesn’t make much sense having to spend time, effort and resources doing things just like every other person does it. In my opinion, the joy of any activity be it in business or in life, is in its outcome or the result it produces. No one cares nor will ever care about whatever you are doing unless it’s creatively being done in such a way that it is significantly different (unique) and significantly affects the life of others (useful).

What must you focus on to get the most from your business?

The life of an entrepreneur is one heck of a life, wouldn’t you agree? From the incessant quest to make a significant contribution through the creation of innovative products/services, to the ever present fear of failing. The entrepreneurial life is very overwhelming, more like joggling too many balls in the air. In a rather funny way, the odds always seem to stack up against we entrepreneurs. What then shall we do; give up our entrepreneurial quest and settle for less? Or march on courageously despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles? I’m sure you would most likely agree with me that the second option is our surest bet as entrepreneurs and the very essence of the entrepreneurial spirit. You did not choose to become an entrepreneur because the journey is easy, NO. You chose to become an entrepreneur because the journey is worth it. Entrepreneurship is not something you can fake your way through; you are either doing it right or not doing it right simple. There are no ways around it.

What are the fundamental rules of business?

Jean Paul Getty (December 15, 1892 – June 6, 1976) was an American industrialist who founded the Getty Oil Company. He was named in 1957 by Fortune magazine as the richest man in America. At his death, he was worth more than $2 billion.

From World War II until his death Getty was considered one of the richest men in the world, in this post I share his 10 winning formulas for business success. These rules were extracted from his legendary book “How to be Rich”, I have added footnotes to each of the rules to make it more relevant to our age and time.
